Sniffy the Sniffer Dog.
A Start Up from Lothian Books August 2003.
A first chapter book illustrated by Craig Smith.
When Sniffy gets thrown out of sniffer dog school, no one understands why he is such a failure. It's because his stomach controls his nose! But when he goes to live with a family, Sniffy has to prove he really is a clever sniffer dog!
Chapter 1 extract.
The day Sniffy was born, his father looked at him proudly.
'My son was born to be a sniffer dog,' he barked. 'I know he'll be just as talented as the rest of our family.'
Sniffy's father was a police dog. He was a hero who helped the police solve many sorts of crimes.
Sniffy's mother had been a famous quarantine detector dog. She had worked on the boats that came into the harbour, until she retired to have her puppies. Sniffer dog puppies.
'His big brothers and sisters are all very successful sniffer dogs,' smiled Sniffy's mum. 'I'm sure he'll be just as clever.'
She did not know it then, but Sniffy was different from the rest of his family. Very, very different.
